Fun With Redwood - Front Deck Going Up

The crew seems to be enjoying this phase of the project. Redwood is fun to work with and Bill the lead carpenter is going at it with a chain saw! They said it's the best way to cut the grooves for the fittings with a straight edge. A circular saw would make a round edged cut (unless you have a jig, I think). He looked like he was having a blast. The pilings are poured and ready and they're putting up the posts that will hold up the deck roof.

This is certainly going to change the profile of the house - for the better we think. It will break up and soften the tall imposing front plane of the house. (I know I've said this before.)

Looking through the back entry arch into the deck area. I am loving the arches so much! They're natural frames for whatever you see through them - an honoring of the view:

Here you can see the level of the deck in relation to the planter/pond. It's much shorter looking! Jody designed it so you can sit down comfortably on the edge of the pond:

Looking up the stairwell from the bottom entry room. Pretty interesting:

The sky has been so fabulous lately.
