Trenching & Filling

Yesterday we visited the site around 1:00 and got to see Tom in action, trenching for the pipes from the wellhead to the tank. They did all the tank work by hand — preparing the pad with shovels and trenching with a cool trenching tool. Wow.

The tank had been filling slowly over night (so as not to drain the well) and was half full by the time we left. A lovely sight. This will give us more confidence if another fire happens in our area.

Another look at the back and the pond. The blue pressure tank will go away and the well head will be lowered so it will end up under the deck (with a trap door access):

Here is the plan for the pond/planter. Gives you the visual idea of what goes where. The planter will be poured at another time. It will end up slightly taller than the pond.

What gave you the idea for the pond/planter? Can the pond be easily drained for cleaning? What will go in the planter?

We had seen a cement pond we liked that was above ground like this, and Jody wanted something between us and our neighbor plus it's a place to have some ornamental plants that won't grow in our garden. We also want to have water plants in the pond.
Yes it has a drain, overflow drains in the side about 6" down, and Jody figured out a method to attach a tube to the drain that you can "vacuum" the bottom without draining the whole pond. We originally wanted to not use a filter in the pond and have plants to keep the system oxygenated. We'll see, we may end up with a filter and pump and we planned for that possibility.
